It Started With A Secret by Jill Mansell

The trouble with secrets is that you can’t guess what the consequences will be . . .

Lainey has lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she’s living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired – if far-from-retiring – actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. It’s definitely worth the challenge of keeping her secret.

At least Lainey isn’t looking for love. It’s time for a break from all that. And yet . . . Seth, the actor’s grandson, really is rather attractive. There’s growing chemistry and a definite connection between them. But how would he react if he knew she hadn’t been honest with him?

Lainey’s not the only one with a secret, though. Seth has one of his own. And everything’s about to start unravelling . . .

My Thoughts

I always look forward to a new publication by Jill Mansell. Her books always leave me with a cosy glow and a huge feeling of wellbeing.

It Started With A Secret is the perfect example that honesty is the best policy!

Lainey and Kit find themselves in desperate need of a job and accommodation. When they spot an advertisement for live-in housekeepers for a large family in Cornwall, it seems too good to be true. Except in order to get the job, they need to tell a huge lie.

They take on the task of organising the lives of a Hollywood legend, his family, grandchildren, and dogs living in a large chaotic house overlooking the sea. Kit and Lainey soon settle into their new positions until Seth the drop-dead gorgeous grandson of Sir Richard makes an appearance….and all of a sudden things are not so simple.

Jill Mansell creates the most wonderful cast of diverse, warm-hearted and deep characters with a plot that flows brilliantly. I got completely immersed in the story from the first page and enjoyed the sizzling chemistry between Lainey and Seth. I loved the elderly Sir Richard, his grumpiness was utterly endearing and I was completely rooting for Majella in her quest to find love again. This is a book to curl up and lose yourself in, the perfect way to spend an evening and a story that stays with you, long after you have finished reading it.

Thank you to Anne Cater and Headline for the blog tour invite and copy of the book, which I have reviewed honestly.
