Today I am thrilled to join the blog tour for Her Dark Heart by Carla Kovach.

Her Dark Heart - Blog Tour

Rory is waiting at the door of the pre-school – a painted picture of his mother Susan in his small hand. But Susan isn’t going to see the picture, because she has vanished.

Susan Wheeler is a devoted mother. She would do anything for her three children. She drops them off and picks them up every single day. Until one day when Susan kisses them goodbye and then never comes to pick them up.

Susan’s mother Mary is worried. Susan is recently divorced and has been finding things hard recently, but she loves her kids – she’d never leave them.

Susan’s sister Clare is furious. It’s just like her to go missing. It’s not the first time, either. Susan has always been a troublemaker. Always seeking attention. She knows Susan has been lying to the family for years. And she knows that Susan has been sneaking out of her family home for weeks…

As the hours turn into days, even Clare becomes fearful for Susan. And, when Mary discovers Susan’s diary, she begins to uncover a dark secret from her childhood. Something no one in the family knew. When the final diary entry leads the police to a man who is discovered dead in a local park, they’re left wondering whether Susan has vanished because she is a victim. Or because she is a suspect…

An explosively compelling crime thriller from bestselling author Carla Kovach – if you love Lisa Gardner, Robert Bryndza or Clare Mackintosh, you’ll love Her Dark Heart.

My Thoughts

As a big fan of Carla Kovach, I was excited to read this latest release in the Detective Inspector Gina Harte series.

Gina is in charge of a case to find a missing mum of three. Susan Wheeler has recently filed for divorce and disappeared leaving little Rory at nursery with no-one to pick him up. Her mum Mary is distraught and knows that Susan would never leave without her children. Soon to be ex-husband and sister Clare are far less concerned about the disappearance, in fact, both seem to dislike Susan.

I enjoyed all the insights into Gina Harte’s personal life. As always the demons from her past affect her deeply but she is always completely professional at work and well respected amongst her team. As a reader, you just know that Gina won’t rest until the case is solved.

I had my suspicions from early on, some were right but as always most were wrong. I think Carla Kovatch has a talent for offering minute details to make the reader feel involved.  However, she then throws a huge spanner in the works and produces an outcome that you could never even imagine!

This is the fifth in the series but they can be read out of order. The author does a great job of updating Gina’s backstory without making it repetitive for readers who are staunch followers of the series.

This is a fantastic dark police procedural that will keep you gripped far into the night.

Thank you to Noelle from Bookouture for a copy of the book, which I have reviewed honestly.
