Thank you again to Rachel, the publisher, and author for a copy of the book, which I have reviewed honestly.

Please take a look at some of the other stops on the Drumbeats Blog Tour.

My Review

It’s really hard to review a sequel as part of a Blog Tour without spoilers. I don’t want to spoil the story for people who want to read the first book, Drumbeats, so I have intentionally kept this review brief.

In this second book, we see Jess return from her gap year in Africa and begin to adjust to English life again. Her time in Ghana is cleverly updated as she recalls what happened to her friend Polly.

I thought it was a little sad that Jess’s confidence and love of life ebbed a little by things that happened to her and her family. She remained honest, caring and kind despite facing many struggles and rejection. At times I felt frustrated that she was willing to put her dreams aside and change into a shadow of her former self.

Again, beautifully written, emotive and hard to put down.

I can’t wait to read what happens next, in the final novel Finding Jess.

Here is my review of Drumbeats Book One.

Author Bio –

Award-winning author Julia Ibbotson is fascinated by the medieval world and concepts of time travel. She read English at Keele University, England (after a turbulent but exciting gap year in Ghana, West Africa) specialising in medieval language, literature and history, and has a PhD in socio-linguistics. She wrote her first novel at 10 years of age, but became a school teacher, then a university lecturer and researcher. Finding Jess (2018) is her sixth book and the last of the Drumbeats trilogy (which begins and ends in Ghana). Apart from insatiable reading, she loves travelling the world, singing in choirs, swimming, yoga and walking in the countryside in England and Madeira where she and her husband divide their time.
