The books were written about A A Milne’s son who was actually called Christopher Robin. The toys Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga and Tigger were actual toys, the only imaginary ones were Owl and Rabbit.
The original toys, with the exception of Roo, are on display in New York.
Christopher Robin Milne resented the fame that his father’s books thrust upon him and said that he felt like his childhood had been exploited.
Winnie the Pooh has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was placed there in 2006 to mark eighty years from A A Milne’s creation
The original bear was called Edward but A A Milne and his son renamed the toy. The name ‘Winnie’ came from a black bear that Christopher Robin visited in London Zoo.
Pooh’s name was derived from a swan named “Pooh” that the Milne family encountered while on vacation. The name was initially intended just for the bear’s swan friend but ended up being used for the central character.
Winnie the Pooh is known for his simplicity, innocence, and love of honey. He is often depicted as a bit slow-witted but kind-hearted and well-meaning.
The Hundred Acre Wood was based on Ashdown Forest in Sussex, England. The Milne family and book illustrator Ernest H Shephard spent many happy times there.
However, bears have never been known to inhabit the forest.

“In that enchanted place on the top of the forest a little boy and his bear will always be playing.”
Eeyore’s downcast manner comes about because the original toy lost some stuffing from his neck. The only toy not to survive is Roo, Christopher lost him in 1930.

The original illustrations by E. H Shephard are not of Christopher Robin’s toy bear. They are actually his own sons bear, who was called ‘Growler’

Alan Alexander Milne, often referred to as A.A. Milne, was an English author, playwright, and poet, best known for creating the beloved character Winnie the Pooh.
A A Milne was a pacifist, despite taking part in both World Wars.
I think it’s terribly sad that the Winnie The Pooh books actually caused an estrangement between father and son. It is so clear that Christopher Robin had a wonderful childhood and that his father knew all about love and kindness. A A Milne didn’t expect the massive appeal for his stories throughout the decades, he would have preferred to distance himself from children’s books. However, the adorable characters and the enchanting location means that the world of Winnie The Pooh will never be forgotten.
How profound that although the books have brought delight to millions, to the most important little boy at the centre of this story, it only brought sadness.
