Today I bring to you a review and giveaway for Oh! What a Pavlova by Isabella May. Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for asking me to take part in the Blog Blitz and providing a copy, which I have reviewed honestly.
Oh! What a Pavlova
Kate Clothier is leading a double life: a successful jet-setting businesswoman to the outside world, but behind closed doors, life with Daniel and his volcanic temper is anything but rosy.
Some days – heck, make that EVERY day – cake is her only salvation.
Slowly but surely, the cities she visits – and the men she meets – help her to realise there IS a better future.
And the ley lines of Glastonbury are certainly doing their best to impart their mystical wisdom…
But will she escape before it’s too late?

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book at first and it did take me a while to get into it. However, the blurb was interesting and the cover mouthwatering and I was intrigued as to how Isabella May would tackle the subject of domestic abuse.
The story centres around Kate Clothier, a high flying publishing executive who is in a toxic relationship with Daniel, a coward, and a bully. Kate leads a double life, outwardly successful but inwardly deflated and crushed. Even on her many business trips, Kate can’t isolate herself from Daniel’s dominance, just the thought of a phone call turns her to jelly. As much as I got frustrated with kate’s situation I know that domestic abuse on this scale still exists, so the plot was believable and the subject treated sensitively.
The imagery of food, exotic locations and use of humour bought light to the book and was handled well by Isabella May.
