Her Final Hour by Carla Kovach
Today I am thrilled to be on the first day of the blog tour for Her Final Hour by Carla Kovach. Thank you to Bookouture for asking me to take part. Hope you can stop by on other dates of the blog tour to see what other book bloggers think too.
Do you really know the family next door?
Melissa Sanderson is the perfect wife and mother. She dotes on her daughter, and lives in her dream home in a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs.
But looks can be deceiving.
Something is amiss in that house – all the neighbours think so. Some say Melissa is having an affair. Others say she’s been drinking too much.
Then one night, sirens wake up the whole neighbourhood.
Melissa Sanderson is dead.
AN ABSOLUTELY UNPUTDOWNABLE THRILLER WITH A BRILLIANT ENDING YOU WON’T SEE COMING – if you like Lisa Gardner, Robert Bryndza or Clare Mackintosh, Her Final Hour will keep you reading well into the night.
My Review
I really don’t know where to start my review of Her Final Hour, there was so much going on in this fantastic, fast-paced psychological thriller.
D I Gina Harte returns home from a mini-break to a phone call from the police station where she works. A woman has been found dead in her own kitchen with her baby daughter crying upstairs. There is no sign of a burglary, and plenty of evidence to show that this killer knows exactly what he or she was doing.
Gina is suffering silently. She is haunted by the memories of an abusive marriage and trying to put a more recent relationship out of her mind. Will she be able to face her demons when the investigation reveals some highly unsavoury but sadly familiar behaviour?
I think I held my breath from page one. There is no flowery introduction here, even the prologue is gritty and unnerving. Hairs rose up on the back of my neck as I flew through this crime thriller and it just keeps getting better, and better, until the ending which had my blood pressure skyrocketing.
I sadly hadn’t read the first book in the series (I will now!)but it didn’t matter. There were snippets alluding to a previous case but it worked fine as a standalone.
Some parts were difficult to read, the author keeps the storyline authentic and has produced a hard-hitting, dark, police procedural which really packs a punch. The storyline is complex and you wonder how it will weave together, as for the characters…people are often not how they seem!
Thank you to Noelle from Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of the book, which I have reviewed honestly.
