  Description:

‘Don’t you agree Detective? That some people deserve to die? I’ve killed the first. I’ve killed the second. Now will you catch the others, or do I have to kill them too?’

The body of Amos Price lies in a pool of blood on the polished floor of an otherwise empty house. With no signs of a break in, and no clues left at the scene, Detective Jenna Alton is at a loss.

But as the team begins to unpick the life of the reclusive victim, they discover a disturbing link between Amos and the disappearance of several young girls in the county going back years.

Days later, another brutally murdered body is found, in a remote motel on the outskirts of town. Ely Dorsey was killed in a frenzied attack and Jenna fears not only that the murders are connected to the missing girls, but that the killer hasn’t finished yet.

As Jenna tries to work out who will be next, the killer suddenly starts sending her deputy, David Kane, messages. Is she being taunted? Or does the murderer want to be caught? And will Jenna discover who’s behind these killings before more people die?

An absolutely nail-biting thriller with plenty of twists, Follow Me Home is perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott.

My Review

This is the third book in the Detective Kane and Alton series but it works just fine as a standalone novel. I haven’t read the previous books, however, I found this one totally absorbing from the very first page.

Detective Jenna Alton is sent to investigate the suspicious death of Amos Price. It looks like murder but there is no sign of a break in and it appears that the victim has a rather shady past.

As Detective Alton and her team begin to sieve through the clues another murder is revealed and the two victims have a dark link. The team delve deeper and find they are met with hostility and suspicion. They have to walk on eggshells when questioning anyone connected to the case and Detective Kane especially is treated with contempt.

When the killer starts sending Kane messages the plotline goes up yet another level, because now it’s personal.

I liked that the reader was given hints to who the murderer is and actually feels some empathy (or is that just me?) The subject matter is handled sensitively, although there were plenty of shocks which take your breath away. There are graphic parts to the story but it remains true to the subject and not sensationalised for entertainment value.

D K Hood drops in extremely subtle clues, that you will miss if you blink but send cold shivers down your spine if you don’t! The book is paced well throughout and it keeps you wanting more from the very start.

The relationship between Detectives Alton and Kane fascinated me. By day she is the boss and Kane respected that, but after hours the couple relax into a deep and caring friendship. As colleagues, they share the same work ethic, they think alike, know each other’s demons and protect each other. The partnership is endearing and you just know that if anyone can solve this case, these two can.

D K Hood has created an epic psychological thriller. Follow Me Home gives you everything you could wish for in a crime thriller……and more!

The best novel from this genre that I have read in a long time.

Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and D K Hood for a copy of the book which I have reviewed honestly.
