Bianca, The Brave, Frail and Delicate Princess
by Meg Welch Dendler
Book Description
Princess Bianca had never set foot outside the castle walls. Not
once in her over-protected, pink, fluffy life. But when a dragon
was spotted in the land and fear spread that the monster had
conquered the king and his brave knights, Bianca realized that it
was her duty to protect her kingdom. She will have to prove that
she can be braver and stronger than anyone believed because
the threat outside the protection of her castle tower was more
dangerous and magical than she ever imagined possible, except in
a fairy tale.
My Review
The heroine of this fairy tale is Princess Bianca, who has lead an isolated and cosseted life for all of her thirteen years. When her father fails to return from an expedition, Princess Bianca’s extreme sense of duty kicks in and she sets off on Sammy the donkey, to find him, and the deadly dragon he is pursuing.
What a treat to find a main female character who is strong, brave and adventurous! Bianca embarks on a journey where she meets mystical creatures who equip her with powers needed to continue on her dangerous mission. When obstacles block her path she refuses to give up, she faces her fears and finds that everything is not always what it seems.
She also finds that she isn’t frail or delicate at all, quite the opposite in fact!
Children will be mesmerized by this beautifully written story. Princess Bianca is just delightful and all the characters she meets are captivating and thoroughly entertaining.
Some valuable life lessons can be learned from this story, especially that determination can conquer everything and that people (and dragons!) can be badly misunderstood!
Thank you Meg for a copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly and fairly.
