What is Coconut Oil?

Coconut oil is extracted from mature coconuts and takes the form of an edible oil that is used in food and beauty products. It comes in solid form but dissolves into a liquid fwhen gently rubbed between the palms of the hands. It is high in saturated fat and medium-chain triglycerides, which are thought to be behind the health benefits for both humans and dogs.

I first started using coconut oil in my dog’s food to improve dental hygiene . Then I noticed that my miniature dachshund was experiencing some baldness on the tips of his ears and on his chest and tummy area. He was already having a little in his food each day so I started massaging some into his fur once a week and saw results within a  month. His black fur also shone beautifully and he smelled lovely too.

Place in ice cube trays with a blueberry in the middle, then pop in the freezer.

Equal parts of peanut butter and coconut oil and a peeled banana, mix , spoon into small silicone trays and freeze.

Tip

Dogs tend to like the taste so a little used as a coating makes a tablet much more palatable and slips down easier. Only a tiny amount though!
