Epsom salts are actually magnesium sulphate and most of us are lacking in magnesium (hypomagnesemia )Health Benefits of Epsom Salts
What do you put in your bath?
An expensive bubble bath? , a fizzy bath bomb? or a luxurious mixture of perfumed bath oils?
Me.?…Just two cupfuls of Epsom Salts!
No fragrance, no bubbles, no colour but a whole lot better for you.
Epsom salts are actually magnesium sulphate and most of us are lacking in magnesium (hypomagnesemia ). This deficiency can play a role in conditions including Parkinson’s disease, insomnia, depression, asthma, heart disease, joint pain, and diabetes. The magnesium and sulphate are absorbed through the skin during an Epsom Salt bath and replenishes the much-needed magnesium.
Toxins from prescription medication and processed food are pulled out, a process called reverse osmosis, so a form of detox occurs. The magnesium promotes the production of serotonin and reduces the effects of adrenaline, therefore the bath makes you feel invigorated with less stress and anxiety.
It will soothe tired muscles, tension headaches, and sore feet. The anti-inflammatory properties help relieve bruising and pain from muscle sprains. It can be rubbed on to wet skin as an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and in a hair rinse (with lemon )to reduce product build up.
Doctors recommend Epsom Salts bath for pregnant women. It will relieve aching muscles. soothe skin breakouts and reduce foot swelling, leaving the mum to be calm and relaxed.
Does it Work?
It certainly softens skin and leaves you feeling relaxed and ready for a good nights sleep, which we all know is worth its weight in gold. It can ease tension from headaches and soothe the aches and pains we get from everyday life. I wouldn’t recommend it for severe pain.
Tip No 1 :- Add a quarter of a cup of baking soda and 6-8 drops of essential oil to your Epsom Salt bath directly before bedtime. The baking soda helps to detox, alkalizes the body and makes skin super soft. An essential oil like lavender or cedarwood will help you feel extra sleepy.
Epsom salts are completely natural and available at most chemists.
I’m also told that these are great for cleaning tile grout and getting rid of slugs!
