Simple Pleasure A Poem

Here is a poem I wrote about my favourite past time reading.

What a pleasure to read a book

by an open fire, in a cosy nook

to be transported to pastures new

with a comfy chair and a good strong brew

to meet the characters, learn their fates

family feuds and moral debates

relationships covered from beginning to end

battles won and friendships extend

family sagas, rich or poor

humble dwellings or pure grandeur

turning pages, chapters read

wondering what twists lie ahead

guess the killer, spot the fake

laugh out loud or real heartache

make the characters into friends

catch the thief and make amends

forget your woes and clear your mind

immerse yourself and leave behind

all those worries that made you frown

it will ease the stress and calm you down

so pick up a trowel and plant the seed

watch how we grow, when we read

expanding minds, new worlds explored

calmness comes and peace restored

and when the pages come to an end

we must review and recommend

keep the reading fire alight

there are stories to tell and books to write

so come up close and take a look

at the simple pleasure of a book.
